Kunimitsu, a kunoichi who took an interest in a request from the International Cooperation Allied Forces, has infiltrated Mishima Polytechnic High School as a student to investigate the inner workings of the Mishima Zaibatsu.

Disguising herself as a model student, she was elected Vice President of the Student Council during her second year. Utilizing her position, she stole administrative server privileges and began secretly scouring the backgrounds of the entire student body.

She eventually uncovered the fact that a student named "Reina Yaotome" was using an alias. But the moment she found the truth, Reina appeared before her, as if she had been lying in wait for that very second.

"What are you snooping around for, Madame Vice President? ...Or should I call you Kunimitsu the Phantom Thief?"

"My, I'm sure I don't know what you're talking about... Miss Yaotome. Or should I say, Reina Mishima?"

In the next instant, the two exchanged lethal blows. In that split second of combat, they realized each other's true strength and recognized one another as "useful assets." Thus, they established a precarious relationship—posing as best friends on the surface while tracking each other's every move behind the scenes.

Soon after, Reina approached her with a deal: in exchange for obtaining G Corp military secrets, she would provide information on the Kuatatou—nine cursed blades said to have been used by an ancient Mishima patriarch to seal away a great demon.

Kunimitsu, who has an insatiable obsession with rare weapons, agreed to the trade on the condition that she receive the blades. She was handed an ancient manuscript detailing their location. After decoding the cipher, Kunimitsu located a hidden passage within the ruins of the Mishima Estate’s main keep, which had burned down a year prior. There, she discovered nine rusted odachi, each nearly as tall as she was.

Having secured the Kuatatou, Kunimitsu followed through on her contract by leaking G Corp’s invasion plans to Reina. She then departed for her father's hidden ninja village to restore the rusted blades and master their secret techniques.

Several months later, exactly as the intel predicted, G Corp launched a surprise assault on New York, and the mastermind, Kazuya Mishima, announced the opening of The King of Iron Fist Tournament.

Finding the name of her mother’s nemesis, Yoshimitsu, on the tournament entry list, Kunimitsu set out from the village. With her mother still confined to a sickbed, she carried the Kuatatou and her newly mastered arts, praying for her mother’s recovery.

"Wait for me, Mother. I will bring back the Spirit Sword Yoshimitsu, no matter what."
